What We Do Not Take On
We work on residential garage doors, springs, openers, tracks, cables, and panels. That's the job. We don't quote commercial dock doors, gate operators, or fence work, and we won't guess a number for a door we haven't seen or photographed.
Most of Grand Rapids' housing stock went up between 1954 and 2002, with the median build year sitting around 1983. That matters here because a door on a house built in the early 1980s often still has its original torsion hardware, and a spring size that hasn't been made the same way in years. We can quote a common 2x8 spring swap over the phone if you can read us the label. We can't quote a rusted-out drum or a bent shaft on a door we haven't laid hands on - those need a look before a number means anything.
We also won't tell you a repair will outlast a door that's already failing structurally. If the section is cracked through, or the track is bent past where a roller will sit true, replacement is the honest answer and we'll say so instead of billing you for a patch.
Straight Answers
A quote is only as good as what we know before we show up. Tell us the door's width (single or double), whether it's steel, wood, or insulated, and roughly how old the opener is. A photo of the broken spring or the track where it's binding does more for pricing accuracy than a paragraph of description.
What we can price sight unseen: standard torsion spring replacement on a common door size, a cable snap on an otherwise sound door, opener swaps for well-known consumer models. What we can't: anything where rust, water damage, or a prior repair has changed how the hardware sits, because Grand Rapids' winters (we're in a severe cold climate band, F3) are hard on doors that sit unheated, and that shows up as corrosion in places a phone call can't see.
One limitation worth saying plainly: if your door is original to a house built decades ago and uses hardware nobody stocks anymore, sourcing that part can push the timeline out. We'll tell you that before we start, not after.
